Mahit Sandhu Triumphs at Deaflympics 2025, Secures Fourth Medal

In an impressive display of talent and determination, Mahit Sandhu has clinched the gold medal in the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the Summer Deaflympics 2025 held in Tokyo. This victory marks her fourth medal of the games, solidifying her position as a top contender in the world of shooting sports.

Outstanding Performance and Record-Breaking Achievements

Mahit Sandhu showcased her exceptional skills by totaling 456.0 points after 45 shots, securing her second gold medal of the Deaflympics. Following her in the rankings were:

  • Dain Jeong from South Korea, who earned the silver medal with a score of 453.5
  • Mira Zsuzsanna Biatovszki from Hungary, who took home the bronze with a score of 438.6

In addition to her gold medal, Mahit broke both the Deaf Qualification World Record and the Deaflympics World Record during her remarkable journey to the final. She topped the qualification round with an outstanding score of 585-31x, which included:

  1. 194 in kneeling
  2. 198 in prone
  3. 193 in standing

This score surpassed her previous record of 576, which she set at the World Deaf Shooting Championships in Hannover last year.

Strong Competition and Final Results

Indian shooter Natasha Joshi also made a notable appearance in the final, qualifying in seventh place with a score of 566-12x and finishing fifth with a score of 417.1.

During the final, Mahit maintained her lead throughout the kneeling, prone, and the initial ten standing shots. However, a 9.4 on her 41st shot allowed Jeong to take a temporary advantage with a score of 10.1. Demonstrating exceptional composure, Mahit responded with four consecutive scores of 10, ultimately sealing her victory.

India's Success at the Deaflympics

With Mahit's latest achievement, Indian shooters have now amassed a total of 14 medals at the Deaflympics, which includes:

  • 5 gold medals
  • 6 silver medals
  • 3 bronze medals
